SAE 2 Pin Max Strain Relief

SAE 2 Pin Max Strain Relief & Grip

Researching the use of SAE 2 Pin connector cable assemblies to power and charge surveying equipment indicates there are a limited number of choices.

Specifically, the Topcon Model RE-S1 only lists 2 associated assemblies P/N 14-008022-01 and 14-008025-01

Limited choices, and that this specialized field is driving some high prices, spells opportunity.

We can see where a greater number of cable assembly choices, as well as, reasonable pricing, are values we can bring to this application.

Frequent use makes higher quality SAE 2 Pin connector configurations with enhanced strain relief and grip the certain choice in the field.

Durability is no doubt required in this application, and heavier gauge (although maybe not required for current carrying) often contributes higher durability.

Topcon P/N 14-008022-01 seems to be an SAE 2 Pin 6 foot extension (unknown AWG).

Topcon P/N 14-008025-01 seems to be an SAE 2 Pin “Quick Connect” type assembly with Alligator Clips (about 18″ long, unfused, and unknown AWG)

Found another supplier offering 2 different Fused 6 foot “Quick Connect” type assemblies with (unknown diameter) ring terminals (unknown AWG), one with an enhanced configuration SAE 2 Pin, and the other with a shrouded enhanced configuration. Both carried more reasonable pricing, but still priced higher than we see necessary.

We assemble a wide assortment of High Quality Configurations meeting specific Customer needs at a reasonable price.

We’ll take the time to discuss and understand the specifics of your application and how You would like to address them.

A combination of a couple assemblies is sometimes the answer, and we can even supply You with a zipper bag to keep them protected and neatly stored.

We’ve been in business for 10 years, and we’ve developed a knack for ascertaining details and pleasing our customers.

12 Volt DC Electric Connector – SAE 2 Pin

by on Jul.03, 2017, under Configurations

Used to be that where one might 1st encompass an SAE 2 Pin connector would be in a 12 volt DC automotive circuit.

Clearly, the “SAE” (Society of Automotive Engineers) component of the designation is indicative of this initial application.

Widely available is the Hopkins 47965 product available in the trailer wiring department of discount automotive stores.

Later on down the road, it would probably be seeing it on battery charge maintenance equipment like a Deltran Battery Tender.

These days, one’s first exposure could very well be on Portable Solar Power equipment being used to charge hand held electronics.

Current fears regarding terrorism and political unrest has prompted a huge marketplace for the emergency preparedness industry.

The SAE 2 Pin connector configuration used in automotive applications filled the bill at the time, but today’s applications have driven further development.

More frequent coupling and uncoupling in current applications precipitated the the need for greater strain relief, and grip.

Current applications have also led to surface mount configurations, as well as shrouded configurations to minimize exposure to environmental elements.

SAE 2 Pin use by portable solar manufacturers in the development of products serving the US Military, as well as the Civilian marketplace, has prompted additional applications and significant DIY (do-it-yourself) use.

We have been serving this market with SAE 2 Pin assemblies employing enhanced configurations, as well as a wider range of AWG options.

Currently available SAE 2 Pin connector configurations and assemblies can be viewed at: www.solarcapitalist.com

Commercial Buyers are asked to please contact us for quantity discounts vs ordering via ecommerce.

SAE 2 Pin – 10 AWG w/ Red & Black Polarity

by on Mar.03, 2017, under HD Variations

We’ve added 10 AWG 2 pin 12″, 24″, and 60″ assemblies with red & black leads to our product line.

10 AWG facilitates the desired higher current carrying capacity necessary for some applications.

Clearly, customers/installers prefer color coded polarity for certain applications.

Assemblies are available in both polarities to facilitate junctions with combinations of these 3 assembly lengths.

Based on input gained through surveying customers, these lengths are the most desirable starting point for this line of 2 pin connector assemblies.

As established with our existing product line, we refer to red leading to the protected “female” socket side as a “power side” connector, and red leading to the exposed “male” pin as a “load side” connector, with respect to junctions.

We’ve discussed the logic behind these designations at greater length in previous posts, but in a nutshell – you’d want to install a “power side” connector (with red leading to the protected “female” socket side) on the end of a set of leads connected to a power source such as a battery.

Therefore, if you’re making up an assembly for connection to it, for example coming from a solar charge controller, you’d use a “load side” connector with red leading to the exaposed “male” pin.

Electronics, Prototyping, Open Source, and Capitalism

by on Oct.28, 2016, under USA #1

While recovering from an illness (double pneumonia) almost ten years ago, I managed to do a significant amount of reading. There was a growing list of books I’d seen referenced (many while reading the “Rich Dad / Poor Dad” series) that I had long had intentions of reading. The list included such works as “The World is Flat” by Thomas L. Friedman, “Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell, and “Wikinomics” by Anthony D. Williams and Don Tapscott. These books had great impact on my perspective, and as a result my, “post recovery” path forward.

The “Rich Dad / Poor Dad” series left me determined to pursue being a business owner – “minding my own business”, as Robert Kiyosaki put it.

“The World is Flat” opened my eyes to how the world was changing as a result of the Internet. “Tipping Point” enlightened me about how the mechanism of change was occurring in today’s world.

In “Wikinomics” I learned the role the “wiki concept” would play in leveraging the input of virtually anyone, in solving virtually anything. I had heard of “Open Source” before, and had a vague understanding, but my understanding was broadened by the “wiki concept”.

Being a Patriotic American with a strong belief in the benefits of Capitalism, although I saw the light with respect to these concepts, they were somewhat confronting. Having worked for General Electric during the tenure of “Neutron Jack” Welch, I was tasked with “protecting the family jewels”, as in “proprietary information”. So, concepts involving the sharing of information regarding developments was a stretch.

Meanwhile, seeing the reality of a developing Global Economy, and the participation of those far beyond Our shores, clearly long held concepts were going to be challenged. Having become interested in solar power, I had begun paying close attention to the manufacturing capacity for solar cells developing worldwide. This emerging solar marketplace was an example of a product’s refinement and production occurring in the competitive global economy.

Creations developed and refined on an “open source” basis leveraged by the Internet, are certainly going to continue to be a formidable challenge to past attitudes toward proprietary information.

Consider the Arduino microcontroller, developed and refined on an “open source” basis, making it not only possible, but within relatively inexpensive reach for individuals worldwide to prototype and test their problem solving gizmo.

The initial development of the Arduino microcontroller emerged in followup to “Wiring” and “Processing”. In 2001, Casey Reas and Benjamin Fry started “Processing” (a processing language based on Java). “Processing” was developed with the intention of getting non-programmers programming, via a digital sketchbook to facilitate them trying and experimenting with their ideas. In 2003, Hernando Barragan began developing a microcontroller called “Wiring”, with the intention of getting people involved with electronics. Then in 2005, Massimo Banzi and David Cuartielles embarked on the development of the Arduino microcontroller.

Being an Engineer, I’ve always been intrigued by Electronics, but haven’t had occasion to delve very deep into actually assembling electronic components into a functioning apparatus.

Most of my career spent in oil, chemical, and nuclear power industries, has been in plant construction and maintenance. Both construction and pipe replacement projects had me involved in welding. Due to the radiation exposure, more specifically – remotely controlled (from a clean environment) automated welding aided by video and audio. Electrical equipment later became another area of specialty.

Ultimately, I came to carve out this niche around SAE 2 Pin connectors and connector assemblies in a wide range of configurations – especially heavier gauge conductors.

More recently coming to be more familiar with the Arduino microcontroller, I’ve become all the more intrigued with electronics.

Clearly, a focus of mine are applications in which an SAE 2 Pin connector assembly will fill the bill. Certainly, power circuits for apparatus controlled by a microcontroller will precipitate applications for SAE 2 Pin connector assemblies.

As the Premier Supplier of SAE 2Pin Connector Assemblies, a mission is to assist the interested by facilitating pertinent interaction. The intention is to open eyes to possibilities, inform, and educate, as well as facilitate. As in facilitate the sharing of knowledge by those possessing it, and encourage the asking and answering of questions.

We look forward to comments from a diverse group of interested contributors, and welcome questions and suggestions, as well!

Tactical Training Target System Components

by on Oct.07, 2016, under Tactical Training Target System Components

As a result of the use of Our SAE 2 Pin connectors in Tactical Training Target Systems, We have taken special interest in them, and especially in the component equipment. Tactical Training Target System Components would include not only electrical connector assemblies (for example, sae2pin connector assemblies), but linear and rotary actuators, micro controllers, piezo vibration sensors, and polymer targets.

Actively participating in Tactical Training using state of the art Target Systems, as well as participating in the market for components – We believe there will be a spike of interest in designing and assembling automated Target Systems. Upon investigating, we’ve found that the components are not all that sophisticated, and considering the number of shooters there are with pertinent knowledge – its entirely possible and likely there will be DIY (do-it-yourself) activity.

In fact, we’re doing exactly that, and moving up the learning curve. Experimenting with some ideas involving piezo vibration sensors to monitor hits on a polymer target via the deflection of a target support. Also experimenting with connection to an Arduino Micro Controller for controlling a linear or rotary actuator.

We are tapping into supplier recommendations, and working hand in hand to prompt and facilitate discussion and DIY activity. It is our hope to connect with those with an interest, and have an open exchange of ideas, experiences, and lessons learned.

We hope to prompt and facilitate discussion of realistic tactical shooting scenarios, and how they might be created with an automated target system. For example, that polymer targets don’t provide visual or audible feedback, makes for more realistic tactical simulation. Lending to further realism, is a target system arbitrarily setting not only which and how many targets move into view, but also the number of target hits that must be sensed before the target drops from view.

Another topic requiring attention and discussion will be: methods of protecting electronics and mechanical gear from stray bullets. For example, plywood may provide some scenario “prop” value (maybe painted up like brick wall, etc.), and it may provide some structure to which to attach components, but it will not provide protection. The more valuable components are going to need to be strategically placed, or provided “bullet proof” protection. This will certainly add to weight and more complicated set up.

We look forward to comments from a diverse group of interested contributors, and welcome questions and suggestions, as well!

Attention Commercial Customers !!!

by on Oct.02, 2016, under USA #1

We’d like to highlight our SAE 2 Pin products being “Made in USA”, in terms of Quality, as well as fulfilling “Buy American”.

Seems this might be of particular interest to commercial customers, especially those attempting to attract business with branches of the government.

We’d also like to highlight Our familiarity, willingness, and ability to assemble/provide, necessary documents. For example, Certificates of Conformance, and Certificates pertinent to chemicals (example: EU requirements around Substances of Very High Concern – SVHC’s).

Experience gained in nuclear power and chemical industries – engineering, procurement, and materials management (especially with respect to electrical equipment), has enhanced our ability to meet these requirements.

We’ve come to recognize the attention of government contractors involved in developing and manufacturing target systems, as well as other applications, about which we know fewer specifics. We have learned that at least some of these applications involve solar power, and probably communication or navigation devices.

Tactical Training, as well as, engineering experience has aided us in our understanding in these areas, especially Target System applications. Similarly, knowledge of Tactical Gear and training & installation experience gained in the Solar Power Industry has also been a benefit.

We actively participate in Crisis Application Group (CAG) tactical training in firearms, medical, survival techniques. Thus, we’re continuing to gain hands on training & experience in cutting edge pertinent applications.

We welcome anyone with interest or questions to email Ray Bowers at: solaray@solarcapitalist.com or call or text at 302-562-1706 (We are a Delaware LLC, but currently located in Georgia).

American Quality SAE 2 Pin Connector

by on Oct.02, 2016, under USA #1

We have a customer that has used Our Products in His Application for several years now, and he’s recently undergone some pertinent learning.

Initially, in the interest of economy, He had been purchasing some of the cheaper SAE 2 Pin assemblies (elsewhere), coming from offshore.

As might have been anticipated, the lower quality imported product wasn’t holding up to the constant manipulation – coupling & uncoupling.

These short SAE 2 Pin connectors lacking the enhanced reinforcement of Our American Made line, often succumb to conductor breakage within the insulation at the back of the connector body.

This occurs because with manipulation, the conductors get bent back and forth and work harden – making them brittle and subject to breakage.

Our American Made SAE 2 Pin Connectors have an Extended Body which adds Reinforcement, and therefore “Strain Relief”, thus avoiding that type failure.

The Extended Body of Our American Made SAE 2 Pin Connectors also provides for Enhanced Grip and Ease in Manipulation.

These Features are Especially Appreciated in not only High Use Applications, but Harsh Environments as well.

Consider coupling and uncoupling in Frigid Weather when the materials are not only hard & brittle, but the wearing of gloves may make the Extended Body Much Appreciated.

Beyond the Basic Extended Body SAE 2 Pin Connector We offer with 18 & 16 AWG, We offer an Enhanced Grip Model with 12 AWG.

We also make this Enhanced Grip Model available in a Shrouded Version, which provides Protection over the Junction.

As can be seen, producing and offering SAE 2 Pin Connectors in an Expanded array of Configurations as well as Wire Gauge & Lengths is what We are all about.

It is Our Mission to Provide Ease in Obtaining the SAE 2 Pin Assemblies that Best Meet Our Customer’s Needs & Desires, be it an existing configuration, a variation, or an assembly Engineered to Meet Unique Specifications.

Our Engineering Experience aids Us in understanding and communicating in a Professional Manner, yet with Intention – We Seek Out and Enjoy interaction with Customers Appreciating Our Willingness to Assist in the Development of an Assembly that would meet Specific Needs.

We will Never Forget Those that have extended Patience & Understanding to Us in the Development of Our Niche, and with Intention – We Attend to Passing that Spirit Forward.

Our Expertise developed out of being Educated as an “Hands On” Agricultural Engineer, spending most of career as an Engineer in the Nuclear Power Industry and other heavy Industrial Environments, and then going “small business” in the Battery Maintenance and Portable Solar Industries.

One of Our Delights is coming to Know New Applications We hadn’t even considered – Examples: Fishing Lights, Electronic Game Calls, Tractor Mounted Spray Units, Portable Power Units, and even Tactical Training Target Systems.

We welcome anyone with interest or questions to email Ray Bowers at: solaray@solarcapitalist.com or call/text at 302-562-1706 (We are a Delaware LLC, but currently located in Georgia).

SAE 2 Pin Today

by on Apr.26, 2016, under Application

We continue to learn of increasing application of our SAE 2 Pin connector assemblies. Providing SAE 2 Pin connectors with heavier gauge wire as well as enhanced connector bodies, has had them see new applications. The heavier gauge wire offerings facilitate applications involving greater current flow. The enhanced connector bodies provide strain relief as well as grip for ease in manipulation. Clearly, the Quality of Our Made in America products is far superior to the mass produced assemblies coming in from other countries.

Being found continues to be sort of a challenge, as not everyone is aware of the “SAE 2 Pin” designation. By virtue of an assortment of keywords, we are sometimes found via other related terms or phrases. In addition to our ecommerce web site at www.solarcapitalist.com , we strive to raise the level of awareness with technical discussions on both of our blog sites: www.sae2pin.com and www.bohemianbiker.com

Although we initially targeted motorcyclists and portable solar powers enthusiasts, we have widened that focus to include many other realms. Some of those realms precipitate very little, but then others seem to produce appreciated attention.

Interaction on several forums has driven up some attention.

For example, on this Vanagon enthusiast forum…

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=581898&highlight=sae++pin

Seeing the need for replacement SAE 2 Pin Caps, developing a mold, producing and marketing the “hard to find” caps, has gained us sought after attention.

http://www.solarcapitalist.com/index.aspx/ImageGallery/Index?productId=31

Amateur (or Ham) Radio is one of the realms we attempted to pursue, but it seems to only have produced limited results. Here is one of the offerings targeting this application:

http://www.solarcapitalist.com/sae2pin-radio-power-suppy-connector-pigtail-12awg.aspx

We’ve even developed an SAE 2 pin assembly to specially address Motorola radio application involving a power supply with “switch leg”.

Heavier Duty application prompted us to develop Shrouded SAE 2 Pin connection pigtails. Our Shrouded SAE 2 Pin Junction components both feature enhanced strain relief and grip and 12” Black Cord with 12 AWG conductors. When your application involves rough duty (dirt, dust, moisture, heavier current flow, and frequent or rough manipulation – wearing gloves, for example), these high Quality connector assemblies may very well be what you need!
